This 16″ x 2 1/2″ carved archtop Bravo Elite is a fascinating example of why we love it when Bob has time in his schedule for special projects aside from commissioned guitars. Made from really old Big Leaf maple and Sitka spruce, Bob very slowly and deliberately hand applied the finish to a super-thin, super responsive Antique Oil Varnish and French Polish. It’s reminiscent of a cherished old violin. He selected an old (but never used) set of tuning machines — original gold Klusons –that he bought in 1969 from New Jersey guitarmaker Vinnie Amato. He even used a gold strap button that is old stock from his earliest repair days. Thinner finishes make for superior acoustic quality, and the parallel bracing with a built-in gold A-6 Benedetto pickup (antiqued by Bob) ensures powerful punch when amplified.
